Glossary

Common terms and abbreviations used in The Sims community.

4ESF 4 Ever Sim Fantasy, website
7DS 7 Deadly Sims, website
8DS 8th Deadly Sim or Eight Drunk Simz, websites
ATS Around The Sims, website
Clonable An object that is offered to be cloned by the original creator
Clone To base a new object on another object, either a simple recolor or a new creation that uses properties of an existing object
DIY Do It Yourself, tutorials on how to create your own objects, or downloadable bases that may be used to make new objects
Droppable means that items placed on walls go down when the walls are dropped so that it doesn't hang in space and obstruct your view of a room.
EP Expansion Pack, used to indicate what expansion pack is required to be able to use downloaded items. The EP's, in order of release, are:
TS The Sims, original game
LL Living Large (Livin' It Up in the UK), adds items, careers, additional neighborhoods, included with The Sims Deluxe & Double Deluxe
HP House Party, throw a catered bash complete with a DJ and cake dancers, included with The Sims Double Deluxe
HD Hot Date, adds Downtown lots - eat out, buy a new outfit
V Vacation, get away from it all on additional lots
UL Unleashed, adds pets
SS Superstar, become a celeb at Studio Town, new careers
MM Makin' Magic, cast spells, go to Magic Town
FSF File Share Friendly - files that may be shared by email or IM with permission of the creator, used to preserve bandwidth
GBNF "Gone But Not Forgotten Sims", a group of file archivers that became "Saving The Sims"
Hack,
Hacks,
Hacked
To modify an object to do special things in the game, or the hacked object itself
IM Instant Message
ISO In Search Of, looking for a Sims object, similar to WCIF
LIU Livin' It Up, a dead website, archived by STS
NPC Non Playable Character whose actions cannot be controlled in the game, such as Bridgit the Maid. Some skinners make playable versions of NPC's.
NTS Night Time Sims, website
PoBS Preservation of Bandwidth Society, started by Neighborhood 99 Forum. Request a FSF file to be emailed to you. This preserves the creator's downloading bandwidth, thus keeping down the cost of running a website.
PSP Paint Shop Pro - an imaging program
S.S.o.W. Secret Society of Woobsha, a website with hacked downloads and hacking tutorials, very friendly group of creators.
STS Saving The Sims a group that has archived FSF files from websites that are no longer online. The files are available at a series of Yahoo Groups.
TMOG Transmogrifier - a program used by object creators
TS, TS1 The Sims, The Sims 1, original game, has 2D graphics
TS2 The Sims 2, second version of the game, has 3D graphics
TSO The Sims Online, an online version of the game. Some of it's objects have been cloned for The Sims.
TSR The Sims Resource, website
Tut, Tute Tutorial
WCIF Where Can I Find, used when asking for help in locating a specific object in a forum, similar to ISO
WDS Well Dressed Sim, website
WFS Wood For Sims, website
